Conejo

The kiddos downstairs got a new pet last week. A 6 week old rabbit, named Spunky! He's quite cute, but Myles is super afraid of it him. He won't get near the thing.

He enjoyed "helping" Jorge make a new home for Spunky.

Nosara

Saturday morning, Connie, Maria and I headed off to Playa Nosara. Morgan stayed home with Myles for a few days so I could get in some relaxing girl time. We stayed at this amazing hotel in the middle of the forest that had 5 pools, a jacuzzi, and a spa. Our room was gorgeous, the morning breakfast were delicious and the staff was very friendly. It was a good choice for us.

After we checked in, we quickly threw on our suits and headed to to pool to sunbathe and read.

Then we headed to beach for to view the sunset before going to dinner. The landscape here is just amazing!

The next day we hung at the beach the whole day. It was a great spot for us; could read on the sand, as well in the water b/c there was an area where the waves came in peacefully and it was only a few inches deep.

While one area was very calm, only a few feet away we were awed by the powerful waves of the ocean.

Before heading back to shower and eat dinner we caught another beautiful sunset.

The perfect girls weekend! Thanks for sharing it with me Maria and Connie.

Punta Leona

Last Saturday our good friends Maria and Carmen, along with their family, invited us to spend a day at the beach. They took us to Punta Leona. It was wonderful. But we missed all the perfect moments to catch some photos.

Connie came in on Monday and we decided to rent a car and spend a day at the beach. So why not Punta Leona? A BEAUTIFUL beach with beautiful sand and the perfect skipping rocks. Thankfully Connie was there to teach Myles the art of this skills

Life is FUN in the SUN

After our time at the beach, we visited the "Crocodile Bridge" which has a family of crocodiles living underneath the bridge. It's quite amazing to see so many crocodiles at such close range.

5.8 Earthquake

At 4:55 this morning I was suddlenly awoken and the first word to come out of my mouth was "Earthquake!" Morgan was already awake; I had slept through the first few seconds of it. I then said, "Should we get Myles?" We decided to wait it out a bit. It turned out fine, and Myles slept through the whole thing.

I've experiences a few tremors before, but I think this counts as my first quake. I know, I know... it's not that big of a deal. But It was a bit scary, and exciting. It definitely got my adrenaline pumping and I was unable to fall back asleep.

I could hear the ground shaking, light flickering on and off, tons of dogs barking, and a few alarms sounded too. It was really an odd experience. So I thought I'd share it on the blog.

Off to the Salon

Yesterday I went to the local salon to make an appointment for a haircut. It's been over 5 months since I've had my hair cut and I just couldn't stand it any longer! Making the appointment went pretty smoothly giving me a little confidence for today's appointment. I called a friend to ask her for certain expressions like "My hair is very thick, and I would like you to thin it out."

I became more anxious as it got closer to my 2pm appointment, but nonetheless, I went! Unfortunately, when I first arrived there was a woman in the salon that was bilingual so when I started with my introductory phrase, "I'm learning Spanish so please bear with me..." The woman interrupted and said, "What is it you want to tell her? I will translate." So I I told her I'd like 2 inches cut off and to have it thinned out.

While it was nice of her to translate, this was an expereince I wanted to do myself. But it worked out, she left pretty quickly. After the stylist, Maritza washed my hair, I told her in my own words, that I was most concerned about her thinning my hair.

She cut, and cut, and cut... but no thinning action was happening. I sat, listened to her speak to another client, and waited. I pretty much knew that when she had finished drying my hair and started to flat-iron it, she wasn't planning to thin it out. So this was my window to speak up. AND I DID! I asked her if she was going to cut more. She responded by asking me if I wanted it shorter. I told her no, I wanted it thinner. She gave me this explanation of how if she cuts it more it's just going to have more volume. I told her I understood, and that I just wanted it to be thinner and asked her if she had a special pair of scissors to remove the volume. AND VOILA! She did, and thinned it out!

It's a bit short, but it'll grow... I think all-in-all it turned out well. And I'm glad I did it.

2 Turn 2!

One of the great parts of our experience in San Jose is a Play Group Myles and I joined when we first arrived. The group fell into our laps, and we're so lucky to be part of this wonderful set of moms and toddlers.

Rosse Marie's little girl Emma, turned two, 8 days after Myles' birthday. So we teamed up and put together a party for the two toddlers.

Rosse Marie hosted at her beautiful home and together we put together an a pretty nice spread. I made Mickey and Minny Mouse cupcakes because Emma loves Minny. Rosse Marie got a Elmo pinata b/c Myles loves Elmo.

Most of our Play Group joined us, and a few of Emma's neighbors came too. We even had a little face painting action. Who knew Myles would sit for a five minutes and let a stranger draw on his face and arm? Not me or his father.

We're so glad most of the group could join us in celebrating Emma's and Myles' second year. Myles enjoys playing with his buddies.

He's starting to warm up to the pinata concept. He got in a few good hits.

Another special part of our Costa Rica experience is Morgan can join us for these events even if they happen on a workday!

Myles loved everyone singing him happy birthday. His smile was priceless.

Feliz cumplianos chicos!

Thanks to Rosse Marye for hosting.

Cabra

Today our neighbor brought home a baby goat for his grandchildren to have for the weekend. He got it from a friend who owns a farm, and plans to give it to another friend who owns another farm on Monday. In the meantime, his granddaughters are having fun playing with the 6 day old Cabra. No pictures of Myles and the goat because he had no interest getting too close to the animal.
